Traditional Chinese Medicine at Melbourne Natural Wellness

TCM -Traditional Chinese Medicine

What is TCM?

Chinese medicine is a complete medical system that has been practiced for over 5,000 years. TCM views the body as a small part of the universe, and subject to universal laws and principles of harmony and balance. The Chinese system believes that emotions and mental states are every bit as influential on disease as purely physical mechanisms, and considers factors like work, environment, lifestyle and relationships as fundamental to the overall picture of your health.

At the heart of TCM is the belief that the cause of illnesses, not only their symptoms, must be treated. In modern-day terms, TCM is holistic in its approach; it views every aspect of a person: body, mind, spirit, and emotions and as part of one. TCM is an amazing ancient yet modern way of seeking answers to illnesses and treatments and the herbs and foods prescribed are easy to incorporate into your life.

How does it work?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory states that there are twelve main meridians (energy channels) that are associated with the twelve main organs of the body. Each organ has an energy associated with it, called Qi (life force energy). When the body is in balance there is an abundance of Qi flowing through the meridians of the body. If the flow of Qi is disrupted, the body will exhibit signs and symptoms of distress.

What to expect from TCM:

These major treatment modalities may be used in your program:
  • Herbal Therapy: the use of herbal combinations or formulas to strengthen and support organ system function

  • Acupuncture: the insertion of needles in acupoints to help Qi flow smoothly.

  • Acupressure: the use of specific hand techniques to help Qi flow smoothly.

  • Chinese Massage, Moxa, Gua Sha and Cupping to promote energy and blood flow.

  • Foods for Healing: the prescription of certain foods for healing based on their energy essences or energy signatures, not nutritional value.

  • Chinese Psychology: the understanding of emotions and their relationship to the internal organ systems and their influence on health.

Your TCM practitioner will create a program specifically for your needs and goals. They will discuss this with you and provide information on how many sessions are required, your investment options and a proposed time frame of treatment. Consultations are extremely thorough, in depth and you are treated as an individual with great care and respect. They will guide you and support you to reach and maintain your goals.
