Myotherapy

What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is designed to alleviate discomfort and restore flexibility in muscular ‘trigger points’ – those irritable, painful spots caused by tissue damage and stress. The treatment uses trigger point therapy, as well as soft tissue massage, stretching, cupping and dry needling, to alleviate discomfort and increase mobility in the targeted muscle.

Is Myotherapy for you?

Trigger points can become activated under undue stress – either physical or emotional. When constantly activated, these points can cause unrelenting chronic pain and lead to further health issues. Myotherapy can be effective in relieving the pain caused by any of the following:

  • Knee pain
  • Sciatica
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Whiplash and torticollis
  • Headaches (including migraines)
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Spasms associated with multiple sclerosis
  • Pain associated with lupus
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Irritable bowel
  • Shin splints
  • Post surgical pain
  • Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Tennis elbow
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Pain associated with pregnancy

What are the benefits of Myotherapy?

Myotherapy uses an integrated approach to target and treat painful aches. By assessing, treating and also managing the pain caused by an injury or certain disorder, Myotherapy can have a positive impact on other areas of the body, as well as the targeted muscle or joint.

Benefits of Myotherapy can include:

  • Pain relief
  • Sleep improvement
  • Increased energy and well being
  • Extended flexibility and greater mobility
  • Enhanced circulation
  • Less susceptibility to strains and sprain
  • Increased endurance
  • Stress reduction

What to expect in a Myotherapy session

There are several techniques that can be incorporated into Myotherapy, including trigger point therapy, soft tissue massage, cupping, stretching and dry needling. As well as these, the use of foam rollers, spiky balls and resistance bands is commonly seen in Myotherapy treatment.

An initial Myotherapy session at Melbourne Natural Wellness involves an in-depth discussion and physical assessment to discern the best approach for your needs and expectations. You might also be given home exercises to help improve the results of treatment.
