What main concerns do you treat?
I find many of us seek out yoga as a way to reduce stress and discover the potential of their bodies. Yoga is not about strong impact or physical exertion but rather a mindful approach to unlocking the power and ability that comes from within. Yoga postures are gentle and considered and have great healing affects on the body and mind. The main concerns Yoga treats are stress, anxiety, depression, muscular tension, sleep and digestive disorders. Circulatory disorders, menstrual conditions, fatigue, heart conditions and many more.
Yoga helps strengthen the mind and body to let go of emotional blockages and patterns and helps us open up to the world releasing any negative attachments of afflictions of the mind.
What is your philosophy or belief about natural healing, and the work you do?
Yoga brings us an awareness of our mind, soul and body and from this awareness the path to healing can begin.
We are all powerful beings who have being given the gift of a body, soul and mind to play out our role in this lifetime. What we do with this vessel we have being given is our responsibility and therefore it is our duty to care for ourselves to ensure peace, health and happiness. Yoga is an expression of the body and a way to search. When we use this expression we can become more mindful of our steps in life and be more present to our everyday experiences.
What sort of a guarantee can you put on your service?
I can guarantee that when practicing yoga you will become aware of your body and in turn become closer to your self. Yoga is choice you make for yourself and takes commitment but your dedication to practice will be rewarded in many aspects of your life.
What value added services, or products can you add onto consultations?
Throughout the class I offer alignment adjustment and instruction on correct posture and movement. I teach breathing exercises which can be easily practiced at home. Through my study of Yoga and shiatsu healing I also teach the healing properties of some asana's and what they can be used for. I am also more than happy to provide Chinese dietary therapy and nutritional advice, tips on meditation or home practices.
What is the potential impact of not seeing you?
Yoga should be seen as a gift that we give to ourselves. It is not a chore, nor is it a burden but rather a special treat that brings bountiful rewards for our health and happiness. Once you have discovered the wonderful potential of a committed yoga practise you alone know what you are denying yourself of by not continuing.
What would a normal session involve?
I like to begin my classes with the breath as this is our first action when we come into the world. It is also awareness of our breath that draws us back into ourselves. The next step is to open up the body gently and bring awareness into the spine and feel the way your body naturally begins to open up. I like to have some variety and some consistency in my classes so I usually involve a series of sun salutation’s and then move onto a series of strengthening asana’s that are aimed at becoming aware of the ability and natural movements of the body. Yoga is not a competition of flexibility or agility but rather an expression that comes from within. There is a correct way that the body must be when in an asana but how far you come into that is your choice. Every body is different and I encourage the individual in my class.
How many sessions will I need?
Choosing Yoga is choosing a way of life. It is a practice that when committed will offer you a peace of mind and health. I recommend a minimum of practice 3 times a week combined with meditation, healthy diet and exercise. Yoga requires discipline and commitment as any practice but a holistic variety of rewards.
Can I claim through private health insurance?
That will depend on your insurance fund and selected options.
What qualifications and experience do you have?
I am a registered Yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance and have being practicing yoga with a strong love and passion since my first introduction 10 years ago. My training has mostly being in Hatha and Vinyassa yoga, but I have also integrated Iyengar yoga into my practice for the past 3 years. I have studied in Australia, Malaysia and India under a variety of different teachers of each of these three styles. I am a qualified Shiatsu practitioner and combine my knowledge of the Japanese meridian system and yoga into my classes and also my life long practice of mediation. I have a strong focus on pranayama in my classes as I believe that as we begin life with a breath, the breath is our first step of our practice.
What are the main worries or concerns your clients have when they come to see you?
Many clients are afraid of their flexibility limitations’ or muscular or back injury. Yoga is a mindful practice and each posture is created with complete consideration to the body as a whole. I think it’s very important to work with the breath in Yoga as by integrating your breath into your movements your body will naturally advice you of your limitations. Yoga should be practiced without strain or pain and flexibility will improve with practice as the muscles will strengthen and lengthen over time.
Do you specialise in any areas?
I focus my classes on the breath and the natural movements of the body. I like to provide knowledge of the healing benefits of different asana’s and include the Japanese makahos (meridian stretches) for their healing benefits also. I specialise in teaching the body about its own capabilities for health, healing and happiness.
