What main concerns do you treat?
A Sports Therapist offers practical advice about the body in motion. The knowledge about the mechanics underlying movement, and how to use these when practicing sports, or simply being physically active in an office all day, can be of value to anyone. So, aside from helping to manage injuries, information on how to improve posture, increase performance and staying injury-free are priceless.
What is your philosophy or belief about natural healing, and the work you do?
I believe that Health is far more than simply the absence of disease. It is the body, mind and spirit functioning with maximum vitality.
What sort of a guarantee can you put on your service?
I like to individualize the treatment to the client’s specific needs and addressing one area at a time to give the best possible results.
What value added services, or products can you add onto consultations?
I am quite passionate about incorporating foam rollers in my exercise prescription. Their use has been integrated with Swiss Balls, allowing for a wider range of exercises and program's for building core strength. When used in conjunction with a ball, the foam roller is an additional platform of instability, which forces the person to draw upon their abdominal and surrounding muscles to remain stable while exercising.
What is the potential impact of not seeing you?
After injury, there is rapid muscle atrophy due to a cellular response to pain, Inflammation and immobility. Muscle strength decreases after a relatively short period of immobilisation. Muscles also show increased fatigue ability and, therefore less endurance after immobilisation.
However, the great thing is one doesn’t have to wait for an injury to occur before seeing such a specialist. In fact, it would make sense to make an appointment for information and advice while still in good shape. This is perhaps the best way to stay in the best physical shape.
What would a normal treatment involve?
I start with an assessment and depending on the particular problem, a Myotherapist/ Sports Therapist is qualified to use a combination of the following treatments to relieve discomfort:
