What’s your story? How did you end up a practitioner or instructor?
My interest in healthcare was cultivated over a long period. I started out in martial arts, then moved through Tai Chi and Qigong to encompass Chinese Medicine, following the example of several cherished friends and mentors.
I gained my qualifications (Bachelor of Health Science, Chinese Medicine) at the Southern School of Natural Therapies, where my studies included over 500 hours of supervised clinical practice.
If you could only treat one type of person, or condition, or goal for a client what would that be?
Probably those with mental/emotional issues (which is all of us, really), as these are often at the root of any other pathologies that arise. I also have an interest in menstrual disharmonies and digestive problems.

Who have been your famous clients?
These are your ‘A’ clients
Confidentiality keeps me from naming names, but I have treated two people who were, at one time, regarded as the best in their field, before succumbing to excess. I helped them to moderate their lives and return to a healthy path.
What makes an ‘A’ client and why do you love treating/seeing them?
My favourite clients are those who are as committed to their health as I am – those who recognise it’s a life-long process, and are always looking for opportunities to improve
What do you do for clients?
Using Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and other therapies as required, I aim to help return clients to a state of balance, where they can recover from illness or injury, and cope with whatever life brings their way
How do you do what you do?
i.e what do you/have you studied, ongoing learning, research, blogs, interviews you have had etc
My core qualification is a Bachelor of Health Science from Southern School of Natural therapies, but I am always studying, training and learning more, with the aim of becoming a better practitioner and a better human being. I believe my background in martial arts, Taichi and Qigong also gives me an extra therapeutic dimension and sensitivity to work with.
And how does what you do work?
All Chinese medicine works by manipulating Qi, our intrinsic natural energy. Depending on your condition, certain treatment techniques may work better for you than others, thus I use in-depth questioning, observation and palpation to arrive at a specific diagnosis for you, and to determine the best acupuncture, herbal and other methods to facilitate resolution of you particular condition.
What is the best advice you can give people? What’s the best advice you have been given?
Leading a good life is a matter of balancing the details with the big picture. Sometimes you need to burrow down and give the fine print your full attention, and sometimes you need to pull back and make the big decisions which give your life meaning. The trick is in knowing which aspect to focus on at which time.
Finally, what are three things people didn’t know about you?
I have quite a varied background. Three jobs I’ve had are florist, musician, and paper-maker.
